Former England international Henry Paul is poised to make his starting debut for Bradford & Bingley at Percy Park on Saturday.

The Bees are currently at the wrong end of the National Three North table and hope the introduction of the ex-Bradford Bulls legend can help them pull away from danger.

The 38-year-old, who has been operating as assistant coach at Wagon Lane since September, has made an odd appearance for Bees from the bench but now feels fit enough to be considered for a starting berth, which could be at inside centre.

Despite the possible addition of Paul, along with the experienced Phil Greaves, the key to victory could lie in the visitors’ pack against a side who are flying high in third place.

A look at Park’s statistics suggest that their strength lies with their backs, with only a small percentage of their 42 tries having come from forwards.

By contrast, the Bees’ best attributes lie up front and secretary Nick Patterson expects them to take advantage of them.

He said: “We think we have as good a set of forwards as anyone in the league. I would think we’ll be looking to keep it tight and control the game in preference it being looser.”

Patterson singled out former Leeds and Newcastle Falcons back Mike Steph-enson as one of Park’s key weapons, saying: “He has been running the show from full back for them.”

Park have won all their league games at home so far, including against leaders Chester, but Patterson believes Bees can test them and are in a false position in fourth-bottom.

He said: “We’ve let ourselves down a bit in that we’ve left two or three wins out on the pitch. We should be about ten points higher up the table than we are.”

Meanwhile, Baildon have prop Phil Wilson available after a week out with a hamstring injury as Baildon look to keep in the Yorkshire Three promotion hunt at home to Burley. Scrum half Ben Newton is also back after moving house.
