SSE Yorkshire Division Five
Thirsk 3
Wibsey 38
WIBSEY notched their biggest SSE Yorkshire Division Five victory for two seasons and their biggest away win for over five years with this six-try display.
They took 19 players on their coach trip to Thirsk but only led 5-3 at half-time after a try by flanker Martin Howarth.
"We knew we had the beating of them but we were doing everything at 100 miles per hour, so the message at half-time was to slow things down and the points would come," said Wibsey's team manager Steve Brooke.
And the certainly did, with full back Scott Smith and winger Bruce Mpofu two, James Sawyer adding four conversions.
The downside of the win, which lifted Wibsey from bottom to third from bottom was the 80th-minute dismissal of CJ (Chris) Vogel for punching and the earlier sin-binning of Sawyer and a home flanker after a melee.
"We will ban CJ for four matches," said Brooke, ahead of a Yorkshire RFU disciplinary hearing.
