Rotherham Phoenix 15, Baildon 7
Baildon fell to their first defeat of the season in SSE Yorkshire Division Three yesterday when they went down 15-7 at Rotherham Phoenix.
The Jenny Laners did know what to expect from their hosts, who had beaten Leeds Medics & Dentists on the opening day but lost heavily to Aireborough last weekend.
However, Phoenix were better than expected, scoring three tries by close-in forward work near the Baildon line.
The visitors were a little lightweight in the pack, despite recalling veterans Phil Wilson and Andy Pollard.
Baildon’s try came as a result of their positive outlook in the first half.
They managed to free Jarrod Huss and he rounded his man to score before adding the conversion himself.
Third-placed Baildon now head a group of five teams on ten points, the others being Thornensians, Burley, Hemsworth and Bramley Phoenix, while Rotherham Phoenix are a point further back in eighth.
On Saturday, Baildon host leaders Old Rishworthians.
