Bradford Salem seconds 16, West Leeds seconds 19
Bradford Salem seconds suffered an injury-time defeat in a hard-fought final at Shay Lane.
Salem, who qualified as champions of West Aire-Wharfe Division One, knew it would be tough against a West Leeds outfit who had lost only once on their way to claiming the North Central Division One title.
Two penalties from fly half Sam Riley gave the hosts the lead but winger Andy Carruthers squeezed over in the corner to make it 6-5.
Leeds pressure told when Tom Jackson cut an excellent line to dart under the posts for a converted score before a 40-metre penalty reduced the arrears to 12-9 at the break.
After a series of driving mauls, Salem were rewarded when flanker Jonny Luxton (pictured) drove over and Riley added the extras to put the Heaton side 16-12 up. They were unable to add to their tally but it looked as if resolute defence would be enough to keep them in front.
However, deep into injury time, West Leeds snatched victory when a quick tap-and-go from a penalty resulted in a try for scrum half Campbell Breakwell, improved by Richard Bedford to break Salem hearts.
