The selectors were clearly frustrated that the Wharfedale backs were unable to build on the forwards’ performance at Sedgley Park last weekend in SSE National League One.

For Saturday's home match against Blaydon, they have moved James Tincknell to inside centre, where he will partner the evergreen Andy Hodgson, match fit again after injury.

To make way, Dan Hart moves to the right wing and Tom Davidson to the bench, passing the kicking responsibilities to fly half Tom Barrett.

In the front row, Neil Dickinson and Steve Graham start, swapping places with Joe Altham and Ben Sowrey.

In the reverse fixture last November, Blaydon won 22-17, holding out against the Wharfedale forwards in a rearguard action.

Sitting comfortably in mid-table, Blaydon are currently in a rich vein of form, with only one defeat in their last seven matches; but they do not travel well and Wharfedale’s record against them is good.

Their pack, however, is playing very strongly so once again the outcome of the match, which will feature five players who appeared for England Counties last week, is impossible to predict.

Wharfedale (home to Blaydon): L Gray; D Hart, A Hodgson, J Tincknell, S Horsfall; T Barrett, P Woodhead; N Dickinson, S Graham, M Tampin, R Brown, J Quinn, A Rieder, R Baldwin, D Solomi. Replacements: J Altham, B Sowrey, R Rhodes, T Davidson, W Bell.

Targeting the regaining of the Centurion Yorkshire Cup as one of the season’s objectives, the Wharfedale are pleased to announce that there will be a home tie against Middlesbrough on Easter Saturday, (April 7, 3.00).

With two important rounds of league matches before then, Wharfedale will be hoping to have the luxury of choosing a strong side.

Middlesbrough defeated visitors Otley 31-26 last Saturday, while Wharfedale had a bye.
