Wibsey, who have no game on Saturday, are still buzzing after their first away win in three-and-a-half years last weekend.

They beat Rossington Hornets 8-3 in SSE Yorkshire Division Five, full back Bryn Worsley getting the try and Ryan Isaac the penalty.

Coach Dave Grayson said: “We got first-phase possession in the scrum and line-out and it made a massive difference.

"We had put an awful lot of work in in training and it came to fruition in what was a 'proper game of rugby' with prop passing to prop.

"We missed two kickable penalties in the first half and they came into our half once and got a penalty to make it 3-3 at half-time, and Bryn got the winning try in the 55th minute.

"The clubhouse at Wibsey was buzzing on Saturday night and we are now building towards our next match against Sheffield Oaks at home on October 22."

Wibsey, who took 18 players, were almost at full strength, and what a difference that made.

The pack was near full strength and with the backs all getting back to fitness and three strong replacements, Wibsey travelled down the A1 brimming with confidence.

As the game kicked off, it was clear this was going to be a close affair with both packs holding firm early doors.

Wibsey were awarded two penalties in the first ten minutes to give them the chance of an early lead, but both chances went begging.

For the next 20 minutes, Wibsey piled the pressure on Rossington, but could not break their solid defence.

Wibsey were beginning to dominate in the scrum, giving them plenty of ball. Unfortunately this did not turn transfer into points.

A rare visit into the Wibsey half from Rossington resulted in a penalty being awarded, which they converted for a 3-0 lead in the 30th minute.

Wibsey came back strongly and had a penalty awarded in front of the sticks in the 39th minute. Isaac found his kicking boots and added the three points. The Wibsey half-time team talk was a vocal affair, with everyone having their say about what should be done in the second half.

Rossington came out after the break with a sense of purpose and had ten minutes of pressure, their final pass not always going to hand.

They missed a couple of opportunites to break what was a solid Wibsey defence.

The visitors then got hold of the ball, and some of the moves they had been practising in training started to pay off as they quickly began to move towards the Rossington try line.

Isaac's kicking out of hand made a good 40 metres and some good work in the line-out from James Birkbeck got the ball back for Wibsey.

A turnover gave Rossington a chance to clear their lines, but the ball landed in the hands of man of the match Dale Green, who burst through a couple of tackles and passed to Worsley, who sprinted for the line, scoring in the corner in the 55th minute.

The conversion was missed and the next 15 minutes were hard fought, with both teams having periods of dominance.

Rossington had a penalty awarded in the 67th minute but pushed it to the right of the uprights.

The last ten minutes were tense to say the least. Rossington came at Wibsey, knowing they had to give it their all.

However, the Wibsey defence held firm, as it had done all afternoon. The final whistle came after a nail- biting final minute and the result was a monkey off the back for Wibsey - their firest away win in three-anda-half years!
