A key target for Keighley’s new head coach Dave Lister is to improve the club’s away form.

The Utley outfit have won 18 of their last 19 SSE Yorkshire Division One matches at Rose Cottage.

They won all 13 last season to go with the final two fixtures from 2009-10 and have started this campaign with three wins from four, the perfect sequence being interrupted by Pocklington’s 17-9 victory on September 10.

Prior to that, the last team to triumph at Utley in a league match were York by 17-11 on March 27, 2010.

By contrast, in their last 17 matches away from home, stretching back to April 10, 2010, Keighley have managed only five victories – at York, Bradford Salem, Dinnington and Ilkley last season and at Yarnbury on April 24 of the previous season.

Clearly Rose Cottage is a fortress but it is most likely to be what happens away from BD20 6DT that will determine how well Keighley do this season.

Lister, who confesses that his new weekend job is proving a mixture of pleasure and frustration, said: “We need to start winning away from home.”

And what better place to start than at Bridlington on Saturday?

Lister gave his side seven out of ten for their 54-16 victory over Castleford – a remarkably similar scoreline to the last time they visited Rose Cottage, Keighley coming out 54-14 victors.

Lister added: “We only played for 60 minutes this time, and we are seeking an 80-minute display.”
