Otley 32, Sedgley Park 33

An unbelievable last five minutes left the home crowd dumbstruck as Otley surrendered a 20-point lead against their fellow relegation contenders.

This was a game they needed to win and were in complete command by the 58th minute but five changes, plus a yellow card for replacement prop Jonathan McMillan, had them in disarray when the visitors launched a final onslaught.

Sedgley Park made the early running and, on five minutes, No 6 Richard Oxley set up winger Alex Hurst, who went in at the corner.

Otley soon made amends as full-back Christian Georgiou, collecting a clearing kick, ran up-field before putting in an accurate chip for winger Curtis Wilson to gather and dive over in style. Georgiou landed a fine conversion.

The visitors hit back when scrum half Chris Wilkinson sneaked over from a line-out, Stephen Nutt converting .

Then Otley hit their straps, the Cross Green forwards taking control as scrum half Stephen Depledge, who was outstanding throughout, grabbed a couple of tries to set up a 17-12 half-time advantage.

A yellow card for skipper Jamie Sutton (pictured) left them a man short but Georgiou extended the lead with a 40-metre penalty.

When Park lost Oxley to the sin-bin, Depledge completed his hat-trick, breaking from behind a maul on the 22 to get over in the corner.

Then it was centre Ben Hough’s turn to shine, running in from 40 metres for Georgiou to convert, but that was his last action as he and Depledge were among the substitutions.

Otley’s demise started with a misplaced back-handed pass which was secured by the visitors and centre Richard Wainwright went in near the posts.

A bewildered defence had no answer when Nutt came up into the line to score.

Worse was to follow when winger Matt Riley was given an easy run in and Nutt, having converted the two previous scores, steadied himself to win the game for Park.
