Wibsey 12, Nestle Rowntree 17
Yesterday afternoon started badly for Wibsey when two valuable players had failed to recover from a virus picked up during in the week for the Yorkshire Division Five clash at home to newcomers Nestle Rowntree.
Brad McHale came in at centre and Scott Taylor at flanker.
Coming down the steep Beldon Lane slope, Wibsey scored the first try of the game, James Sawyer crossing after gathering a Simon Birkbeck kick and Steven Hadcroft converted.
Andy Rose turned over the ball from the line-out allowing quick ball for the backs. Sawyer drew in two defenders, then popped it to Jason Kay, allowing him to score in the corner. Hadcroft narrowly missed the conversion.
In the second half, Wibsey fought hard to defend a 12-point lead but, despite some hard graft from the whole team, conceded two unanswered tries and a penalty, Wibsey thus having to settle for a bonus point.
