James Tincknell, Leeds Carnegie’s new capture from Wharfedale, scored two tries for England Counties as they gave Danny Hodgson the perfect end-of-tour send-off.
Manager Hodgson, who has been involved with the team since it was set up in 2002, described himself as the happiest man in Canada after watching his team defeat British Columbia Bears 46-7 at Klahanie Park in Vancouver.
It was England Counties’ third win in as many matches on the tour – a fitting tribute to Northumberland farmer Hodgson, whose first involvement with the team seven years ago was as assistant manager.
Other tries for a team whose average age was 22 came from centre Henry Staff (2) – the youngest player in the side – winger Tom Jarvis, lock Louis McGowan and replacement Phil Eggleshaw, fly half Paul Humphries converting two and his replacement Ross Winney adding two conversions and a penalty.
Tincknell’s first try in the first half came after crisp hands from No 8 Mark Evans gave him all the space he needed to gallop home. He added a second try after the break.
