Yorkshire Division One club Ilkley have received a national award for grass-roots excellence.

They have won the Fund-raising category in this season's President's XV awards.

Rugby Football Union president Bob Taylor invited clubs to apply for a share of £10,500 in prize-money, and entries went up from 66 in the inaugural year in 2007 to 158.

Ilkley's citation reads: "Ilkley have an £800,000 target to build a new clubroom, viewing area and changing rooms, and have already raised £420,000.

"The whole club is involved, from the chairman who raised £8,000 cycling to Liverpool, to the mini-junior teams, who are raising £2,000 from each age group."

As a winner, Ilkley will receive £500, as did Malton & Norton, who won the More Volunteers category.

They were also runners-up in the Club-School Links section, for which they received £100.

Hullensians were runners-up in the Better Facilities category and Sheffield Ladies were runners-up in the Girl Power section.
