Holders Ilkley Seconds and Old Otliensians Firsts emerged victorious by just a single point tonight in the Skipton Properties Aire-Wharfe Cup.

"Otliensians were hanging on for dear life at the end," said Bradford Salem's match secretary Neil Klenk of their second team's 20-19 defeat at Chaffer's Field.

Christian Bourne, who started at centre before switching to scrum half, scored two tries for Salem and was also instrumental in their penalty try, fly half Matt Whitford adding two conversions.

Jonathan Wood (2), Joe Rob-inson and Tim Rishworth got 'ensians' tries.

Men of the match for Salem were Bourne (backs) and veteran second row Gary Scott as Salem fought back from an early 15-0 deficit.

Another match which finished 20-19 was Ilkley's visit to Keighley Seconds, who got tries by James Tillotson, Mark Beckett and Sam Morton and almost bagged a fourth five-pointer having come back from 17-12 down.

Aireborough Firsts notched a 30-13 victory at Yarnbury Seconds.

Tries for the winners came from full back Hugh Williams, No 8 Nathan Smith, second row Mark Howarth and, in the last five minutes, winger Chris Blackshaw, fly half Nick Holdsworth adding two penalties and two conversions.

Yarnbury, for whom No 8 Paul Yeadon and former North of England Under-20 scrum half Mark Dixon shone, got a try by centre Tom Cliffe and a conversion and two penalties by fly half Joe Churnin.

A young Bramley Phoenix side were beaten 23-10 by Roundhegians in an all-first team tie at The Warrells.

Winger Karl van Lellyveld and prop Willie Hawkesworth got the tries for Phoenix, for whom fly half Sam Coates had a fine game.

Roundhegians responded with tries by Matt Clarke (2), who played at centre and then scrum half, and debutant fly half Ryan Patel.

Full back Dave Miller added a drop goal and fly half Adrian Hogg a penalty and a conversion.

The first round will be completed tonight with West Leeds first team's visit to Otley Thirds (6.15), and they will be playing for the right to visit West Park Leeds in the second round next week after the draw was made last night at Yarnbury.

Ilkley Seconds are at Wharfedale Thirds, while Aireborough host Leeds Corinthians, who had a first-round bye. Roundhegians will visit Old Otliensians.

In the first round of the Plate, Baildon will be at home to Bradford Salem Seconds, while Bradford & Bingley Thirds will visit Yarnbury Seconds.

The losers of tomorrow night's clash between Otley Thirds and West Leeds Firsts will host Bramley Phoenix Firsts, while Keighley Seconds are already into the semi-finals courtesy of a bye.
