Keighley's veteran scrum half Kevin Bottomley is backing his colleague Sam Walker to make the grade at first-team level.

Bottomley, who drops to the bench to allow Adam Balderstone to start in Saturday's re-arranged Yorkshire Division One match at third-placed Selby, said: "Sam is a strong lad and took his try well last week against Ilkley.

"He runs hard but he just needs to go looking for the ball more. He tends to stick on the wing but more experienced wingers will pop up all over the place as they seek the ball. However, his finishing is excellent. He just needs fine tuning."

After starting the season by losing seven of their first eight league matches, keighley have won three of their last four and almost made it four out of four as they only lost 25-20 at home to Ilkley last weekend.

But Bottomley said: "It is a dogfight every game and when you lose you need to win as quickly as possible otherwise you can get a string of results going against you and find yourself near the bottom.

"We have a hard month - Selby away, then Bridlington away and bottom club Redcar down here, who we have to beat. Also we need to pick up an away win somewhere."

In a reshuffled back line, Mark Beckett switches from centre to full back, Matthew Cox reverts to the wing and Danny Lester comes inside to centre.

In the pack, prop Paul Sinfield gets a start and young Will Armitage gets a run at open-side flanker as Rob Ellis is unavailable. Rob Wilkinson is among those on the bench.
