BRADFORD Salem will soon be adding to their list of international players.

Their No 8, Chad Bain, who previously played in the 13-man code for Bradford Dudley Hill, has been named in the Canadian Wolverines' train-on squad for next month's 2017 Rugby League World Cup qualifiers in Florida.

Canada will take part in the Americas Qualifying Tournament, facing Jamaica on Tuesday, December 8 in Deland, and the United States on Saturday, December 12 in Jacksonville.

Salem's first-team manager Neil Klenk said: "Chad is a man of few words. He said he was going back across the pond to play rugby league, but never mentioned that he was playing for the national team!

"He is doing well for us and we are expecting to be without him for four weeks, although we haven't got first-team fixtures every weekend while he is away. It will be a test of our squad strength."

Bain will be following in the footsteps of Robbie Flynn (USA rugby union), Reuben Bijl (Netherlands rugby union), Tony Fella (Italy rugby league), Khurrum Aziz (Pakistan rugby union) and Dan Scarbrough (England rugby union).

Director of rugby Sam Gardner is back in Salem's starting line-up at centre for their Yorkshire Division One derby at bottom-of-the-table West Park Leeds, Harry Hall dropping to the bench.

Leaders Bradford & Bingley are treating their 27-23 defeat at Hullensians as a wake-up call, but head of rugby Martin Whitcombe is basically giving the players another chance at home to York.

Bees' secretary Nick Patterson said: "I talked to Martin at length afterwards, and he was more worried about the players not doing on the field what they had done in training."

Tom Cummins returns at No 8, Greg Whately dropping to the bench, where he is joined by centre Richard Tafa, who has recovered from a knee operation.

Second-from-bottom Cleckheaton have a winnable home match against fourth-from-bottom Stockport in National League Three North. Former England rugby league player Ewan Dowes, who has been a stalwart for Leeds Rhinos and Hull, will be on the bench for Cleckheaton if he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Second-from-bottom Baildon have a stiffer test at home to seventh-placed Bramley Phoenix in Yorkshire Division Three.

Buoyant Wibsey, who are fourth in Yorkshire Division Five, have an interesting test at home to fifth-placed Hallamshire, who are three points behind but have two games in hand.
