YORKSHIRE Carnegie skipper Jack Walker is among four players who have been nominated for the Greene King IPA Championship player of the month award for January.

The 18-year-old hooker, who is the first player to be nominated from the Headingley club, is in competition with flankers Marco Mama (Bristol) and Sam Betty (Worcester Warriors) and back Sean Romans (Nottingham).

Walker was named as captain for his side's Championship match against London Scottish to eclipse Jacob Rowan (now with Gloucester), who led Carnegie at the age of 22.

A product of Prince Henry's Grammar School in Otley, North Ribblesdale product Walker – whose dad John was a stand-out player for Otley and Keighley Cougars and whose brother Chris is also at Carnegie – was part of England's Junior World Championship-winning squad in 2014 and, more recently, was named in the England Under-20s squad for the upcoming RBS Six Nations.
