SSE North One East leaders Cleckheaton have been docked five league points for an incident that happened TWO seasons ago!

They faced Malton & Norton at home on April 21, 2012 and won 18-17 but a visiting player was injured and belatedly cited Cleckheaton, although no individual was ever named from the Moorenders.

The hearing eventually resulted in Cleckheaton being docked five league points and fined £1,500.

They appealed, and were told they were right to appeal and, although they were exonerated as a club, the twin punishments remained the same.

Cleckheaton fixture secretary Alan Bentley said: “Malton & Norton say that the injury was caused by a kick or a punch but we contend it could have been caused by a shoulder.

“However, we have had this hanging over us for a long time and we are just glad it is over and we can move on.”

Cleckheaton, despite the deduction, which has yet to come off the official table, will still be three points in front of second-placed Huddersfield YMCA.

The Moorenders host their bogey team Northern on Saturday, and will be without Johnno Marshall and Lee Queeley, who has gone to Afghanistan with the RAF. Craig Blackburn is on the wing and James Wilson moves inside to centre.

Bentley added: “We haven’t beaten Northern since October 2010 and have lost to them home and away for the past two seasons.”

Bragging rights between Bradford Salem’s first-team manager Neil Klenk and Yarnbury’s coach Bob Hood in the Ring o’ Bells will again be up for grabs when the teams meet in a top-six SSE Yorkshire Division Two clash at Shay Lane.

Salem’s skipper, second row James Cunliffe, returns but there are doubts about centre Sam Dunn, due to a Halifax RL Academy scholarship, and winger Connor Malarkey, who has been ill.

Baildon continue their battle for survival in the same section with a trip to fourth-placed Barnsley.

Bonus-point kings Old Grovians, who are fourth from bottom in SSE Yorkshire Division Three, are at second-bottom Hemsworth.
