Bradford Salem, with two wins from two so far in SSE Yorkshire Division One, face the acid test on Saturday at Hullensians.

The east Yorkshire club have already beaten promoted Baildon 55-0, and Salem’s fixture secretary Neil Klenk said: “Hullensians is always a difficult place to play and this match is pivotal if we want to be considered for promotion.”

Although they can field a decent starting XV, Salem may be a bit threadbare on the bench, where they only initially named prop Dave Luxton.

Klenk explained: “We have five players missing – Ben Scarbrough, who had five stitches in his eye last week, John Morrell, Sam Savage, Jordan Ashworth and Dan Wyness.”

Cleckheaton, who have made an equally positive start in SSE North One East, have Lee Queeley back at Driffield.

Fixture secretary Alan Bentley said: “Lee played rugby league for the Army last weekend but James Marshall played so well for us in the centre that Lee’s power will probably serve us better on the wing.”

Wibsey, who lost 18-10 at home to Hallamshire in their SSE Yorkshire Division Five opener last week, have appointed Darryl Wilkinson (backs) and Jon Locke (forwards) as coaches.

Matt Hartley said: “Our former coach Dave Drayson will help us out when he can but we are now looking for a head coach.”

Alex Cerson and James Sawyer got Wibsey’s tries.

On Saturday, Wibsey are at Knaresborough, who are officially opening their new clubhouse. Missing for the visitors are Andy Rose, James Sawyer and Matt Hartley.

Keighley may have been relegated last season and lost their first two matches this season in SSE Yorkshire Division One, but director of rugby Graeme Sheffield is not pressing the panic button ahead of their derby at Ilkley.

After a 17-10 defeat by Scarborough and a 26-16 setback against Heath, both at home, Sheffield said: “We have a set of young lads and both matches have been close. Nothing has changed since last year and there is no panic.”

Old Grovians make their seasonal home debut against Rotherham Phoenix in SSE Yorkshire Division Three and include centre Dom Copsey and forward Gareth Phillips. Baildon are at Leodiensian.
