Baildon 22, Knottingley 40

Baildon were desperately unlucky to come away from this SSE Yorkshire Division Three game empty-handed after conceding three late tries which ended an unbeaten home record which had stood for almost two years.

Leading 22-16 after 55 minutes, the Jenny Laners looked to have the game in their grasp and were twice denied the four-try bonus point by some desperate last-ditch tackling by the visitors.

However, costly defensive mistakes and a tiring scrum gave Knottingley the ascendancy and the visitors took full advantage with three unanswered tries in the last quarter.

Before that Baildon had taken the lead on 12 minutes through outside centre Hayden Lister, who accepted a short pass from his brother Nick following a fine break by the fly half, Jarrod Huss tagging on the extras.

Ten minutes later, Lister turned from provider to scorer with a fine individual try which saw him break from just inside his own half and evade several would-be tacklers to touch down just to the right of the posts.

Huss narrowly failed to improve the try, hitting the upright, but made up by scoring the try of the game following a fine handling move by the Baildon backs ten minutes into the second half.

The Kiwi improved his effort with a fine touchline conversion and increased his points haul a few minutes later by landing a superbly-struck penalty from just inside the visitors' half .

However, that concluded the Jenny Laners' scoring for the afternoon and Baildon were left to rue a poor last quarter which cost them the game and the opportunity to gain vital league points.
