Hullensians 55, Baildon 0

Baildon came away from their first ever SSE Yorkshire Division Two game well beaten but with great credit after giving everything against a powerful Hullensians outfit.

The Jenny Laners were forced to travel to Humberside with a weakened squad following the late withdrawal of centre Matt Poulter (hamstring), and suffered a further blow when lock Alistair Beaumont had to be taken off within ten minutes of the kick-off with a groin strain.

By then things were looking ominous for the Jenny Laners, who had already conceded three tries.

However, Baildon dug in and were unlucky not to score when several raids close to the Hullensians line were thwarted by last-ditch tackling.

Three further tries by the hosts put the score 36-0 in their favour by the break but a determined defensive effort, led by outstanding No 8 Tom Craven, limited the home side to three second-half tries, and Baildon were unlucky not to get on the scoreboard when young prop Connor Ward broke free from a ruck 20 yards out only to be tackled just short of the line.

The Jenny Laners will look to cut out the costly mistakes which gave Hullensians most of their points for next Saturday's visit of Knottingley, which also sees the return of the Lister brothers Hayden and Nick, plus lock Tom Peel, who were all attending a stag function.
