Durham City 6 Cleckheaton 19

Cleckheaton were good value for this hard-earned win against brave opposition.

The visitors took the lead in the 24th minute when their strong pack gained lineout possession and drove to the line, Oliver Akroyd touching down.

Minutes later lock Danny Nolan was given a yellow card following a minor fracas.

On the stroke of half-time a quality break from Ross Hayden almost resulted in James Wilson touching down in the corner. However, the referee rightly adjudged that the winger didn’t ground the ball.

City opened the scoring in the second half when fly half Arnie Stevenson kicked a penalty but, ten minutes later, the Cleck pack once more showed their power when skipper Richard Piper scored his ninth try of the season following good work from Akroyd.

Stevenson reduced the arrears to six points with another penalty but the visitors had the last say when replacement Craig Blackburn raced over for a try, Iain Gordon converting.
