Queensbury’s hopes of making the third round draw of the Ace Insurance BARLA National Cup have received an unexpected boost due to the recent big freeze.

The enforced lay-off has allowed prop forward Lee Kelley (dislocated thumb) and wingman Liam Dovner (shoulder) sufficient time to recover and make the line-up against visitors Glasson Rangers.

The Cumbrians from coastal Maryport will find Bury’s Hilltop ground a daunting venue after their long journey and will do well to overcome a home side raring to make progress in the amateur game’s top cup competition.

West Bowling host St Joseph’s in a Pennine League Premier Division basement dogfight.

Bowling are third from the bottom on six points, with Saints snapping at their heels just two points behind them. Wests won away 26-20 but that will count for little against the Huddersfield outfit, who know their way to the try line.

Clayton welcome Wibsey Warriors in what will be another crucial encounter. The Warriors appear to have a stranglehold on their recent meetings, having won the last one 42-10 in October.

Both sides are poised in mid-table, handily placed to make a strike for a top-four spot, which will add spice to a game that will see no quarter given.

Birkenshaw entertain Division One table-toppers Bank Top Harriers in what could be a dress rehearsal for the Jack Senior Bradford Cup final, scheduled at Odsal on May 20.

The Harriers have already booked their spot, while Birky have to dispose of Wibsey Warriors in the forthcoming semi-final.

Birky lost 40-26 in the last meet and, while they have vastly improved to march into fourth spot, they will badly miss Steve Wroe (broken toe) and Paul Riley (broken elbow).

West Bowling A host Odsal Sedbergh at Emsleys Rec in the only Division Two fixture. Wests will be looking to avenge their recent two-point defeat at the hands of their great rivals, while Sedge always raise the stakes in this one.

Division Six Undercliffe Wildboars will be missing a number of key players when they welcome Clayton A to Rawdon Meadows. Justin Hunter, Paul Cross, Danny Barok, Isaac Brown and Dave Newell miss out.

However the strength of the squad is reflected with established players such as Karl Walker, Gavin Jarvis, Joe Jepson, Steve Ingleson and James Roe, plus youngsters Josh Jepson and Ben Chandler.
