This season’s giant-killers Bank Top Harriers and Wyke will lock horns on Saturday to decide who goes forward to the Jack Senior Memorial Bradford Cup final at Grattan Stadium.

The Harriers, who enjoy the benefit of home advantage, believe they have the edge in the forwards.

Sonny Farrell, James Rhodes and Danny Murgatroyd are on top form, while they have the speed of full back Finn Lamont and top try-scorer Mike Hustler at the cutting edge in the backs.

Harriers playmaker Adam Mitchell played a key role in seeing off former Conference stalwarts West Bowling in the previous round and he was also responsible in ensuring Wyke’s exit last term with an 18-point haul at Towngate.

Wyke last appeared in the final in 1984 but the black and whites feel this is definitely their year after defeating Premier Division outfit Queensbury in their opener. Coach Nigel Briggs is cock a hoop that talisman stand-off James Dewhirst has recovered from an ankle injury and he also backs his pack – comprising of recent BARLA international Ash Hutchinson, Ian Wormald and Simon Owen – to match the home six in what will be a mighty arm wrestle.

In the other semi-final, Birkenshaw welcome Wibsey Warriors eager to ensure that the game will not be a repeat of last year’s final tie.

The Warriors ran riot at the Odsal Bowl that day, racking up a 68-10 success that left Birky reeling.

Time has moved on, however, and coach Jason Hirst has skilfully manipulated them into a well-drilled outfit bidding for the Division One title.

He does have a number of casualties though, with Tom Duff and James Gross out through injury.

Wibsey are the last Premier Division side in contention and will be well aware of banana skins and counting their chickens.

They too have problems, with Mike Derrick and Cameron Bishop still on the sidelines.

The Warriors’ strength in depth will ensure a strong presence, with Ryan Smith likely to lead the charge from the stand-off berth but the heavy conditions underfoot could prove to be a huge leveller on the day.

In the Hudson Foster Supplementary Bradford Cup, the Clayton A v Undercliffe Wildboars tie could go either way, while Queensbury A entertain a resurgent Victoria Rangers.

Wibsey Warriors A welcome Wyke A in what will be a hard-fought derby and West Bowling A are at home to struggling Odsal Sedbergh A.
