Queensbury were edged out 10-6 at Premier Division high-fliers Slaithwaite Saracens in the Pennine League.

Josh Naylor crossed for the Bradford side and they led 6-4 after a penalty from Scott Swann.

But Slaithwaite won the game with a dubious second-half try when the referee called held and then let play continue, leaving Queensbury stationary spectators awaiting a turnover.

New Clayton signing Callum Dinsdale made an impressive debut in the Division One East/West championship play-offs at Kippax Welfare.

The burly former York and West Bowling prop beefed up the pack, allowing veteran half-backs Scott Pendlebury and Jason Woolham to touch down.

Simon Giles grabbed a hat-trick, with Paul Crossley and Jake Patchett also reaching the chalk, which – together with six goals from Woolham – saw Clayton home 40-14.

Birkenshaw lost a close encounter 14-6 at Keighley Albion after taking the lead in the second stanza with a try from 17-year-old loose forward Johnny Gray, which followed a rare 0-0 first half.

Albion ensured the Division One West spoils with a late interception try but Birkenshaw will take a great deal of encouragement from a tremendous defensive display.

West Bowling A went down 28-10 at Emley Moor in the same section.

Bowling stood up to the massive home pack in the heavy conditions, with touchdowns from Danny Loxam and Mike Green, before tired legs saw them eventually slide to a scoreline that did not reflect their efforts.

Wyke narrowly failed to lower the colours of Division Two leaders Newsome Panthers in a 12-8 thriller at Towngate.

The black and whites looked on song at 8-0 up following a Dean Smith try and two Mick Wormald goals before a fluke kick from the visitors struck the post, enabling them to hit back and eventually go on to claim the points.

Queensbury A lost 20-12 in their Division Five home fixture against Guiseley Rangers.

Playing down the hill in the first half, Queensbury scored two tries from Tony Clarke, both converted by Daz White. But they were unable to add to the score and Guiseley powered back to snatch the points.
