Wibsey Warriors booked a semi-final berth in the BARLA Yorkshire County Cup with a famous 18-12 victory at Doncaster Toll Bar.

The Warriors set out their stall in the opening stanza with two tries from free-scoring full back Michael Derrick plus solo efforts from Chris Adams and Andy Robinson, who also kicked their only conversion.

The Doncaster outfit’s potent attacking reputation came to the fore in the second half but the Warriors proved their mettle by restricting them to two scores in what turned out to be tense finish.

Nathan Anderson won the man of the match award for a jubilant Wibsey side that now travel to Hunslet Old Boys, who, along side Sharlston Rovers, are joint favourites to take the trophy.

In Pennine League Division One, Birkenshaw posted a 22-10 home win over derby rivals Queensbury, with Ben Nabozny, Adam Lazenby, Andy Seager and Andy Hirst reaching the whitewash, whilst West Bowling A enjoyed a 10-8 derby success at Keighley Town.

Former BARLA international captain Nigel Halmshaw was in splendid form for Bowling operating in the unusual number six jersey, setting up tries for Kane Mazurke and Danny Loxam. Callum Wilcox kicked the only goal.

Clayton failed to make the scoreboard, going down 68-0 at leaders Slaithwaite Saracens.

Wyke lost 54-2 at Emley Moor, with only a Shaun Godfrey penalty to show for their efforts. Brothers Simon and Alan Binns were their best on the day.

Odsal Sedbergh came out 46-6 on top at home to Undercliffe Wildboars in Division Three.

Mark Dove scored his first try in three seasons. Other touchdowns came from Adam Moffatt (2), Shaun Flynn (2), Robert Priestley (2), Jonny Ward and Graham Harrison.

In Division Five, Queensbury A suffered a setback when visitors Stainland grabbed an early lead but they bossed the rest of the half, posting 28 unanswered points with tries from Lewis Symonds, Stephen Senior and a hat-trick from Aaron Moore, with Michael Boocock kicking four goals.

Chris Coates was outstanding for ’Bury, who ended up winning 28-12.
