Queensbury put in a sterling performance at Halifax Irish in the first round of the Pennine President’s Cup.

Queensbury eventually lost 28-16 but were well in the contest, trailing 18-16 with less than ten minutes to go.

Try-scorers were winger Liam Dover, second-rower Gareth Chambers and in-form prop Luke Scrimshaw.

West Bowling A went out 34-14 at home to Westgate Wolves.

Martin Tordoff, Alex Maud and Andy Patchett reached the chalk, with Rob Benn adding an extra.

Clayton also bit the dust, losing 28-8 at Kings Cross, while a double touchdown from Lewis Barrett saw Wibsey Warriors overpower Dearne Valley Bulldogs in the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy preliminary round.

Mike Derrick, Phil Brain, Danny Herbert and Andrew Robinson, who also kicked three goals, completed the 30-6 scoreline.

Bank Top progressed 26-12 at Undercliffe. Mark Bailey, Jason Gelder (2), Mark Brown and James Barraclough crossed and Dan Oldfield kicked three conversions.

Odsal Sedbergh lost 28-12 away to Division Three leaders Lindley Swifts. Player-coach Steve Brown and full back Adam Moffatt posted their efforts.

In Division Five, Queensbury A won 28-6 at home to Kings Cross.

’Bury were first on the scoreboard with a well-worked try by centre Aaron Moore.

They increased their lead when winger Luke Barrett crashed over in the corner.

Hooker Kennedy Timewell grabbed a third before Kings Cross replied to make the score 16-6 in favour of the home side at half-time.

Second-half tries from Stuart Bennett and Chris Coates, with four goals from Michael Boocock, ensured a healthy total.
