Clayton were involved in a real humdinger against Kings Cross Park, edging the Pennine League Division One encounter 19-18 after a tug of war.

The Villagers had Danny Caston, stand off Kyle Newton and Phil Redgrave to thank for their individual tries.

Redgrave also helped himself to three goals and a drop goal.

West Bowling A suffered at the hands of local rivals Queensbury, going down 48-6.

Loose forward Rick Helliwell posted Bowling’s only effort, with Elliott Cousens adding the extras.

Wyke’s first outing ended in defeat as they lost 44-30 to Halifax outfit Illingworth.

In Division Two, Bank Top Harriers were outclassed by a masterly Wortley Dragons side, although the 60-6 scoreline doesn’t reflect the effort shown by the young Harriers team. Full back Paul Artist scored their try.

Wibsey Warriors demolished Moldgreen 70-6.

In Division Seven, Clayton A beat Odsal Sedbergh A, with veterans John Parkin-son, Craig Pickthall, Mark Anderson and Richard Heseltine all making the scoresheet.
