Local interest in the Pennine Cup competitions came to an end following defeats for Clayton and Wibsey Warriors.

In their President's Cup semi-final, Clayton took the lead with a Scott Pendlebury penalty at red-hot favourites Sharlston Rovers, only to fall 16-2 behind by the interval.

Clayton made the Wakefield side pull out all the stops and Pendlebury weighed in with another converted effort in the second stanza.

The final 34-8 scoreline failed to reflect the Villagers' considerable contribution to a cracking game.

Wibsey Warriors lost for the first time this season in the Supplementary Cup semi-finals by an identical scoreline at West Leeds.

Wibsey defended like trojans to go into the break 4-0 up after an unconverted try from Mike Derrick.

West Leeds, who also have not had their colours lowered but compete in a higher division, turned the screw on the restart to run in a quick 18 points and virtually seal their success.

Phil Brain posted a late consolation effort for the plucky Warriors.

West Bowling kept their hopes of reaching the Pennine League Premier Division very much alive with a 28-4 success against King Cross Park at the Bankfoot Oval.

Half-backs Shaun Fallon and Gareth Cullington ran the show with a try apiece, and Martin Tordoff, Matt Sharpe, Gavin Walker and Ben Kelly also made the whitewash.

Birkenshaw took the spoils 16-6 at a rain-lashed Greetland All Rounders.

Birky led 6-0 at half-time following a Paul Bancroft touchdown, with James Clarke and Andy Hirst adding to the tally in the second period.

Hirst and Karl Wroe kicked the conversions. Victoria Rangers have been relegated after losing 42-0 at Dodworth.
