QUEENSBURY staged a magnificent comeback to inflict a 30-28 defeat on previously unbeaten Division Four leaders Wortley Dragons in the Pennine League.

'Bury looked to be on course for an away drubbing when they found themselves trailing 16-0 with only ten minutes gone, before a few words of much-needed guidance from coach Stu Rubery helped them to get right back into the game.

Alix Stephenson slotted a grubber kick through Wortley's defence for Ryan Hearn to scoop up the ball to score under the posts, leaving Ethan Sharpe to add the extras.

The speedy three-quarter then produced a quick scoot from the play-the-ball to race 50 metres and complete a brace, with Sharpe again landing the conversion to narrow the gap to 16-12.

Wortley's speedy full back found a gap in the Queensbury line on 31 minutes to score an easy try – but with the half-time whistle looming, 'Bury showed their resolve and Stephenson touched down in the corner, Sharpe showing his class with the boot to add the difficult extra two points from the touchline.

Queensbury, now just 22-18 in arrears, started the second stanza in style, with Cameron Parry busting the Wortley line by shrugging off three defenders to reach the chalk and Sharpe again making sure of full reward.

Hearn then brought more joy to the visitors' ranks when he posted his hat-trick try with 15 minutes remaining, sprinting the length of the field to leave the chasing defenders no chance. Sharpe was bang on target again to put the blue and whites in control at 30-22.

Some great defending from second-placed Queensbury then helped them see out four back-to-back sets without conceding and and they held their nerve, despite allowing Wortley a questionable try which ensured a nail-biting finish.

Clayton's march up the Division Two table continued with a comfortable 36-10 win at bottom side Wakefield City.

Loose forward Simon Giles continued his run of form with two smart touchdowns and wingman Oliver McElroy matched this brace.

The strong centre partnership of Michael Cunliffe and Ryan Wilkinson led to a try each – which, together with a fine effort from substitute back Karl Spring, completed the seven-try haul.

In Division One, Brighouse Rangers missed out 24-18 at home to Crigglestone All Blacks.

Rangers opened the scoring when prop Sam Moon crashed over but the visitors responded straight away in a game that ebbed and flowed.

Powerful running from home centre Liam Stead set up a try on the blind-side for Matty Bailey but Rangers' lack of discipline allowed Crigglestone back into the game.

Good work from Jake Hyde and Lee Robson set up lively half-back Jamie Barraclough to keep the scores level but Crigglestone wrapped the game up with ten minutes to go.

Wyke A posted their first Division Four win by 36-30 at mid-table Swillington. Hooker Sean Kelly crossed twice, with Tevin Campbell, Gary Worley, Mark Goodwin and Phil Oliver adding to the tally.
