A BELOW par Wyke had to pull out all the stops to salvage a 12-12 draw against Pennine Division One basement strugglers Crigglestone All Blacks at Towngate Rec.

The hosts were rocked in the opening salvoes as the All Blacks, playing up hill, pounded their try line and only some resolute tackling prevented them from taking the lead.

The Black and Whites finally got under way when prop Ash Hutchinson and Ian Wormald combined to put stand off Gary Worley in the clear – only to see a late tackle snuff out the chance.

Crigglestone went a man down when loose forward Adam Sayner was sent off after making head contact in the tackle, but they made light of the loss when stand off Jordon Hudson cut inside and raced 25 metres to the whitewash, leaving prop forward Dale Tilford to add the extras.

Wyke loose forward Sean Godfrey raised home hopes with a weaving run to fall narrowly short.

But the opportunity was quickly exploited when full back Jimmy Wain crossed close enough in for wingman Ben Procter to boot over the conversion and level the scores 6-6 at the break.

Crigglestone regained the advantage shortly after the restart when they stole the ball in a one on one tackle to send centre Cody Medforth over in the corner, but it was too far out to land the touchline conversion.

Tempers began to fray as the tackles flew in thick and fast, resulting in Wyke’s fiery prop Lee Birkett and All Blacks scum half Dale Tilford cooling their heels in the sin bin after roughing up each other at the ruck.

And the visitors were further depleted when prop Ashley Hill joined them when he lost his composure with a head high shot.

The Black and Whites upped their game and nosed in front when Godfrey spotted the narrowest of gaps to cross at the side of the posts, and Procter ensured full reward to make the score 12-10.

The visitors' coach persistent protestations to the referee earned him a red card and a long trudge to the dressing rooms.

But just when Wyke looked likely to be celebrating, Birkett was sent off for shirt pulling and Crigglestone landed the resulting penalty to make matters all square at 12-12.
