IN falling to a 16-12 defeat to Greetland All Rounders at Towngate, Wyke squandered a succession of golden opportunities to reach the Pennine League's Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy final.

The black and whites hit the front when centre Ryan Exley scored a classy effort by handing off one defender and powering through another to touch down in the corner but the visitors levelled soon after.

Wyke talisman Coby Kittsen then caught the Halifax outfit napping with a scoot from the ruck but the first stanza finished at 12-12 when the All Rounders crossed for a touchdown that should have been ruled out for a knock-on.

The second half was a shocker for the home outfit, however, as they wasted a glut of clear-cut chances when the ball- carriers decided to go for glory when an overlap on the outside presented a better route to the whitewash.

A Greetland interception then provided the platform for a rapid attack in their wingman went over in the corner for the game-breaking try.

Wyke coach Warren Pitman said: “Our inability to finish our two on ones cost us a place in the final.

"Greetland were a well-drilled team that worked for each other, while we were a team of individuals.”

Queensbury A booked a berth to meet Wyke A in the Hudson Foster Supplementary Bradford Cup final with a 32-22 win at Birkenshaw.

Bury ran in tries from Aiden Hainsworth, Brett Marriot, Gareth Crowther, Nathan Burke, Rob Nagy and Andy Stephenson, Robson Moore adding four conversions.

Birky’s challenge was led by Gary Procter, who bagged two touchdowns and three goals.

Luke Johnson also scored a brace, but their outstanding performer was Jarrad Toulson.

* A last-gasp penalty from scrum half Simon Sewell gave Bradford Dudley Hill a 24-22 Kingstone Press National Conference League Division Two victory at Salford City Roosters.

A tight game was 12-12 at half-time, Hill taking the spoils via tries from Tony Huby, Martin Southwell, Daniel Samuels and Damian Smith, with Sewell adding three other goals.
