TWO early touchdowns from free-scoring prop forward Ian Wormald put Wyke on course for a berth in the Pennine League's Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy semi-finals following a 40-22 third-round success at Farnley Falcons.

Leading 12-0, the black and whites managed to lose the plot and allow the Falcons to level at 12-12 by the break.

However, the introduction of pocket rocket Scott Watson got Wyke back on track shortly after the restart when he scooted over for a quick brace.

The Leeds-based hosts were far from done, however, and once again restored parity at 22-22.

Second-row forward Jonny Waddington then created the chance for Calvin Barker to cross out wide, and good offloads allowed fellow winger Liam Naven to seal the win when he reached the chalk for his first of the season.

Stand-off Gavin Mezals made a telling contribution with six conversions for Wyke, who now face Greetland All Rounders for a berth in the May final at Batley Bulldogs.

Clayton cemented their top spot in Division Three West by demolishing visitors Hollinwood 68-10.

Full back Josh Lanfear led the way with a hat-trick, ably supported by scrum half Devon Gurney and hooker Phil Redgrave, who both crossed for braces.

Centre Elliot McElroy, wingman Connor Murphy and prop Christian Wooler posted solo efforts, and centre Ryan Wilkinson kicked ten conversions, as well as adding a try.

Birkenshaw went agonisingly close to registering an upset at Mirfield Stags A before falling 16-14.

Long-serving prop Paul Bancroft was at his best as Birky rattled the hosts with touchdowns from Chris Walker and Matty Honysett, alongside three goals from Gary Procter.

Wyke’s teenage second-team hooker James McGibbon is being tipped as the find of the season following his sparkling two-try performance in the 26-14 success at King Cross Park A.

Packman Kieron Helliwell also scored a brace, and former Wibsey Warrior prop Matt Castledon marked his return to the fray to complete the five- touchdown tally.
