QUEENSBURY bowed out of the Pennine League President's Cup at the third-round stage by the slender margin of 12-6 at home to Premier Division table-toppers Fryston Warriors.

Bury, who were seeking revenge following their narrow exit from the Yorkshire Cup at the hands of the visitors a few weeks ago, fell behind to a controversial touchdown.

The Warriors collected a handling error to cross the whitewash from what looked to be a forward pass.

The hosts' resolute defence then held firm until just before the break, when the Fryston full back joined the line to skirt around at speed and close the half at 8-0.

Queensbury raised the stakes on the restart by upping the tempo and were duly rewarded when wingman Scott Swann pounced on a kick through in the corner and then added the conversion with a magnificent kick from the touchline.

The hosts continued to batter the visitors' line but the rugby gods deserted them when a Fryston kick that appeared to be going dead held up in the wind, allowing them to score the final try of the game.

The man of the match award went to Bury second-row forward Tom Hainsworth in what was a splendid all-round team performance

The opening-round Jack Senior Memorial Bradford Cup tie between Wyke and Odsal Sedbergh was abandoned after 55 minutes at Towngate.

Sedge were 6-0 up at the time, thanks to a first-half touchdown from packman Josh Tordoff, referee Bob Ingham calling a halt following a snowstorm.

The fixture will be replayed on a date yet to be fixed.
