ODSAL Sedbergh suffered mixed fortunes in a 34-10 defeat at New Earswick All Blacks in their latest Pennine League Championship Division fixture.

Sedge, who travelled to York with only 14 men, were soon further reduced in numbers when prop Steve Barnes had to leave the fray with a rib injury.

But they showed their undoubted resilience to restrict the title-chasing hosts to just a 16-0 interval lead and then mounted a gallant fightback on the restart.

Two quick touchdowns from three-quarters Ben Cousins and Aiden Lovett narrowed the gap but the All Blacks then held all the aces after Sedge packman Kris Fawthrop was sent off for tripping.

Odsal stalwart Nick Chapman was outstanding in the backs-to-the-wall effort.

Wibsey Warriors gave Division Two hosts Littleborough a 58-0 roasting, with no fewer than ten players reaching the whitewash.

No-one could accuse the Warriors of selfish glory-hunting as Ross Simpson, Mike Batty, James Mann, Nick Walker, Angus Parkin, Nick Heap, Dave Coates, Lewis Barrett and Danny McDonald reached the chalk. Steve Redman also added a touchdown to his nine conversions.

The Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy second-round ties produced a cull of local sides.

Highly-fancied Victoria Rangers lost 8-4 in a tight match at Boothtown Terriers, while Clayton went down 44-10 at Greetland All Rounders. Queensbury A also bit the dust 36-12 at West Leeds.

Lower-league action saw West Bowling A hooker Joe Lumb collect a brace in a 38-20 Division Four home win over Farnley Falcons.

Scrum half Ben Heald and Luke Whitaker matched him in the scoring stakes and Ben Cousen added a solo effort, Lewis Poole kicking five goals.

Queensbury B pulled off the shock of the day in Division Six West with a 30-18 home success against high-fliers Meltham All Blacks.

'Bury, who trailed 12-0 at half-time, hit their straps on the restart with two bulldozing efforts from packmen Matt Kieran and Andy Senior.

Then Rob Nagy edged them in front before the try of the game came from a length-of-the-field sparkler by wingman Dan Priestley. Dave Helm then had the final say when he collected a Josh Naylor chip to cross in the corner.

Odsal Sedbergh A also enjoyed a 32-6 home victory over Greetland All Rounders A, with touchdowns coming from Lee Birkett, Luke Barnes, Robert Booth, Aiden Whiting, Ryan Scholes and Josh Briggs.
