Birkenshaw full back Ben Nabzony joined the line to make the extra man and posted two crucial tries in his side’s 28-20 home win over Pennine League First Division basement-dwellers Castleford Panthers.

Wingman Karl Robinson scorched in at the corner for the best try of the game and further efforts from Gavin Mezals and Chris Clough, plus four Matty Gowland conversions, moved Birky up the table into sixth spot.

Queensbury looked to be in danger of a heavy defeat when they fell behind 8-0 at classy Premier Division title contenders Drighlington. However, they rallied in style when scrum half Gregg Marriott was narrowly denied and a Jack Evison effort was then debatably disallowed.

The hosts crossed for a converted touchdown on the hour to edge 14-0 in front but they had to endure a torrid last 20 minutes as Bury tried valiantly to close the gap, alas to no avail.

West Bowling retain second spot in the Championship following a 34-16 win over New Earswick All Blacks at Emsleys Rec. Scrum half Ben Heald was in fine form with two tries and four conversions.

Liam Darville, Jason Marshall and Ryan Patchett also made the whitewash but the best touchdown came following a kick to the corner. The York full back collected the ball, only to see Adam Reardon steal the ball from him in a one-on-one tackle and plant the ball over the chalk.

Undercliffe held onto top spot in Division Four with a narrow 24-22 win over Whitehall Warriors.

The visitors went ahead early doors before the Cliffe drew level with a Kaz Ahmed effort out wide, with Aidan Scully converting from the touchline to make it 6-6 at half time.

Undercliffe skipper Ryan Dean then ploughed through four defenders with Scully adding the extras before Isaac Brown produced the try of the game by picking the ball up from dummy half and outpacing the Whitehall defence to score under the sticks.

Centre Ahmed posted his brace and Scully’s try made it 24-10. The Warriors hit back hard but Undercliffe kept their nerve to finish worthy winners.

Division Seven side Queensbury B enjoyed a 22-14 home success against Moorends Marauders.

Luke Barrett crossed for two touchdowns while Liam Lofts and Zain Butt were also on the scoreboard.
