New Cougars coach Paul March has snapped up Ross Peltier, Sean Hesketh and Scott Law as he acted quickly to bolster his squad in preparation for next season.

Rookie back-rower and Jamaica international Peltier has spent the past two seasons with Huddersfield Giants, having had four years with Bradford before being released aged 16.

He was then signed by the Giants, who handed him a two-year professional contract in December 2010, but has now penned a one-year deal at Cougar Park.

March has also secured the signing of former Cougars favourite Law and Halifax prop Hesketh as he looks to reshape the Keighley squad following the departures of Jason Demetriou, Sam Obst, Michael Korkidas and Semi Tadulala .

James Haythornthwaite will also not be returning to the club next season as he gears up for a change of career into horse training.

But March revealed the bulk of the 2012 squad had penned new 12-month deals for next season.

They include March, Danny Jones, Jamaine Wray, James Feather, Jesse Sheriffe, Ben Sagar, Craig Moss, Ryan Smith, Ollie Pursglove, Neil Cherryholme, Andy Shickell, Danny Lawton, Jamie Shepherd, Richie Barnett, Jy-mel Coleman and Brendon Rawlins.

March said: “Obviously we’ve lost a few players but I’m already looking to replace them and have brought in Ross Peltier from Huddersfield, Sean Hesketh from Halifax and Scott Law is coming back to the club from Australia.

“I’m delighted with all three signings and hopefully there will be more additions to the squad in the coming weeks before we start pre-season training on November 6.”

March is particularly pleased to have signed Peltier, who will become reunited with Jamaica team-mates Wray and Coleman.

He said: “Ross is a very aggressive, physical player who has been part of Huddersfield’s first-team squad, although he has not made his Super League debut.

“But he’s a young lad who I believe can make a significant impact in the Championship and I’m very happy to have him on board.

“The fact he knows a few of the lads here already through his Jamaica representation should help him to settle in quickly.”

March was part of the Cougars side beaten in heartbreaking fashion by Halifax in last week’s Championship play-off eliminator at The Shay.

A last-minute try condemned them to a 28-24 defeat in Demetriou’s final game in charge.

But March said: “The desire, attitude and application showed by the players could not be faulted.

“Obviously we wanted to go further but there has been real progress this year. A lot of the lads who have come up from Championship One with us have proved they can perform at the higher level.”
