Jason Demetriou insists his team are better when the pressure is on.

Cougars head into tomorrow night's televised trip to Swinton knowing only a win will do.

By picking up all three points, Keighley can keep their faint title hopes alive. Lose and the Lions will be celebrating a title triumph at the Willows.

But Cougars have already beaten the Championship One leaders once this season - a thrilling 35-30 victory at Cougar Park - and player-coach Demetriou is confident they can do it again.

He said: “I think we play better in these situations. When we have to, we tend to raise our game and we did that the last time we played Swinton.

“We slipped up against Oldham but we needed to beat Doncaster last week and we did.

“They will be very hard to beat. They’ll be aggressive and they’ll be fired up because they know they can win the title.

“But I believe we have the talent and the gameplan to beat them. We held a bit back the last time we played them because we knew we had to face them again so we’ve got a few things to try this time round.

“This is a massive game and we can’t wait to play them. It’s on Sky and there’s a lot riding on it, so this is exactly the kind of game you want to play in as a professional sportsman.”

Cougars got themselves back on track with a 34-6 win against Doncaster on Sunday, having lost to Oldham the previous week.

And Demetriou looks set to keep faith with the players who impressed against the Dons, which means a spot at stand-off for the player-coach.

Demetriou stepped in to address a leadership void in the halves and performed well alongside fellow playmaker Ryan Smith.

But he insists his decision should not be seen as a slight on Jy-mel Coleman.

“I just felt against Oldham we lacked leadership and direction,” said Demetriou.

“Jy-mel is an outstanding talent for the future and I’ve got a lot of faith in him. But I knew when he came here he wasn’t that finished and I’d need to do a lot of work with him.

“It’s difficult at the moment because he’s still living in London so I only get to see him one night a week “Ryan has been playing well but he plays better with an experienced half alongside him.

“People forget Ryan’s only young himself and when you play two young lads together, their inexperience sometimes shows.

“The last time we played Swinton we scored points but we were pretty ordinary with the ball and sheer determination got us through.

“At the weekend, we set our plays up and ran them, making us very difficult to stop.”

Ryan Benjafield looks set to miss out due to a back injury suffered during the warm-up before Sunday’s win against Doncaster.

James Hutchinson also missed last week’s game but he could be passed fit, giving Demetriou a selection dilemma on the wing.
