The Cougars have signed Huddersfield centre Tom Burton ahead of the 2010 season.

The three-quarter becomes the second player Keighley have recruited from the Giants, following his former team-mate Sam Crowther to Cougar Park.

Burton scored 20 tries for the Giants’ Reserve Grade team this season and also spent some time on loan with Doncaster in the Co-operative Championship.

The 21-year-old becomes the fourth new player to be recruited by Cougars head coach Barry Eaton since his side gained promotion by beating Oldham in the Co-operative Championship One Grand Final at Warrington.

Eaton said: “I’ve been very impressed with Tom. He’s a good six-foot tall and very strong.

“I’ve watched him several times and he can do a great job for us in the Championship.”

Besides Burton and Crowther, the Cougars have also signed up Castleford Tigers second-row forward Richard Jones and Craig Moss, a utility back from Hunslet Hawks.

Meanwhile, Carl Hughes has signed a new one-year deal to remain with the Cougars.

Signed at the end of the 2008 season from Featherstone Rovers, the speedy loose forward was an integral part of the team that won promotion by beating Oldham.

“I’m delighted that Carl has opted to stay at Cougar Park,” said Eaton.

“I’m aware that he has had interest from other Championship clubs but I believe he can see that this Keighley team has great promise. At the same time he wants to be part of our Championship adventure.”

The 26-year-old forward’s agent had extensive discussions with Eaton before the deal was clinched.
