CAMPION will just be sweating slightly, as the Northern Counties East League Division One leaders suffered a 1-0 defeat at mid-table Ollerton Town on Saturday.

It was only the second league defeat of the season for the Red and Blacks, their first on the road, and means they now have just a four-point lead over Rossington Main at the summit.

Crucially, Campion do have three games in hand over Rossington, which gives them some breathing space.

Only the champions will go up automatically, so the Bradford side will still be wary of Harrogate Railway Athletic in third.

Railway are 12 points behind Campion, but they have played two games less than the Scotchman Road outfit.

The Red and Blacks had a golden opportunity to go in front after half-an-hour at Ollerton, but the prolific Marcus Day saw his penalty saved by Owen Evans.

Midway through the second half, it was the home side's turn to be awarded a spot-kick.

Jake Squires made no mistake from 12 yards out, firing the ball down the middle to beat the diving Brad Emmerson.

And despite their best efforts, title favourites Campion could not find a response.

It was a good day for Thackley in the NCEL Premier Division though, as they won 3-0 at Frickley Athletic.

Former Everton youngster George Green is now among the Thackley ranks, and he started the move which ended with Aidan Chippendale cutting ball back for Ben Grech-Brooksbank to fire the visitors in front after 33 seconds.

The Dennyboys were dominating, and after Grech-Brooksbank crashed a volley over the crossbar, they went 2-0 in front midway through the first half when Chippendale bent a free-kick around the wall and into the net.

That was how the score stayed until the break, with Thackley putting the icing on the cake with 20 minutes to go.

Stephen Crawford slipped in player-manager Tom Greaves one-one-one, and the prolific striker made no mistake with his finish.

Eccleshill United ended any lingering fears of relegation with a thumping 4-0 home win over lowly Goole AFC.

Devonte Morton put the hosts in front just before half-time, with Benjamin Gordon doubling their advantage on 64 minutes.

Morton added his second of the afternoon moments later, before Goole had Callum Patch sent off.

Eccleshill added a late fourth against 10 men courtesy of Kiari Ventura.

Albion Sports had a rare game in Bradford with their game against third-placed Garforth Town moved from Farsley Celtic's ground The Citadel to Bradford (Park Avenue)'s Horsfall.

And they ended up with a creditable draw against their high-flying visitors, with the point moving them 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Silsden's bad run of late has left them looking likely to finish in mid-table, and they slid to a 2-0 West Yorkshire derby defeat at Golcar United, thanks to a brace from former Steeton striker Kayle Price.

Price's former strike partner at Steeton, Andy Briggs, is in some form for the Chevrons, and he netted twice as they beat Darwen 3-0 at Marley on Saturday in the North West Counties Football League First Division North.

Jake Townsend scored the opener, and Briggs hit his double after the break, with Steeton seventh in the table and just nine points off the play-off places.

A dreadful 3-0 defeat for Brighouse Town at struggling Grantham Town means the visitors are still looking over their shoulders at the sides below them in the Northern Premier League East Division, only five points clear of the relegation play-offs.

Liversedge slid back to the bottom of the NPL East Division table, losing 4-2 at Hyde United.

Hyde raced into a 3-0 lead before having a man sent off, with Jack Carr and Nathan Cartman pulling Sedge back into the game with two goals in 12 minutes.

A late fourth ended any hopes of a remarkable comeback and sealed the victory for the hosts.

Guiseley are still right in the play-off hunt in the same division, following their creditable 0-0 draw at fourth-placed Warrington Town.

Farsley Celtic secured a decent point in National League North on Saturday, after there were no goals in their home game against Chorley.

But a shock win for relegation rivals Leamington over title-chasing Darlington has put the Celts back into the drop zone on goal difference.
