Thackley 5 Glasshoughton Welfare 1

Thackley are through to the quarter-finals of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup after romping to a fourth round win over Glasshoughton Welfare at Dennyfield last night.

The visitors took an early lead when Ashley Scothern broke the deadlock in only the fourth minute. The Dennyboys hit back through Jerome White but it remained all square at the interval.

A penalty just three minutes into the second half, netted by Thackley’s Andy Wood, put the home side in front and they never looked back. Kristian Hargreaves made it 3-1 four minutes later and two late goals, from Thomas Dugdale and Ryan Farrell, made it an emphatic victory for the Dennyboys.

There was no joy in the Premier Division for Liversedge as their push for safety was stalled by a 4-1 home defeat to title-chasing Worksop Town.

The visitors scored the only goal of the first half when Andre Johnson finished a fine move with a fierce shot from ten yards. Connor Higginson doubled Worksop’s lead 13 minutes into the second half before Johnson went on to complete a hat-trick.

Johnson’s second came from the penalty spot and he claimed his treble with a curling shot although Sedge hit back with a consolation penalty of their own. Vaughan Redford netted from the spot following a foul in the area.
