Thackley boss Patterson champing at the bit

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Andy Patterson is happy with his Thackley squad Andy Patterson is happy with his Thackley squad

Andy Patterson is looking forward to his first pre-season as a manager after being handed the job at Thackley on a permanent basis.

The former Bantams youth striker was in charge of the Dennyboys for the last six games of last season following the departure of Lee Clapham and joint manager Dave Morgan.

Patterson said, "I'm keen to get started but all I've done so far is speak to the players and start arranging the friendly games.

"I have spoken to most of the boys and had a good chat with the senior lads at our presentation night. They have all said they are coming back and are all very positive about next season which is very pleasing to know."

Patterson may have begun his career at Valley Parade but most of his football was played at non-league level so he is aware that he can take nothing for granted.

"The thing is though, at our level, you never really know until the first week of pre-season training. Sometimes the players are tapped up by other clubs in the close season and they end up somewhere else.

"I have not thought about bringing new players in because to be quite honest I'm happy with the squad I've got. I know them and worked with most of them under Vinnie (former manager Vince Brockie).

"So I'm not actively looking for new signings but I'll have my eyes and ears open as ever because if good players become available you have to be in there quickly and we all want a successful season next time around so we're always looking to improve.

"Regarding the friendly games, I'm looking for just three at home because the reserves need some home friendlies as well and we're all part of the same club. I'm very conscious of what the reserve side needs as well as the senior side so we'll restrict our warm-up games at Dennyfield."
