Cheadle Town 2 Silsden 2
SILSDEN’S lead at the summit of the Hallmark Security League Division One is down to just two points after Danny Forrest’s men let a two-goal lead evaporate to draw 2-2 at Cheadle Town.

The Cheshire club may be lower mid-table but they showed that they had heart for a battle as they overcame a first half deficit.

A big win looked to be on the cards at Park Road as the Cobbydalers broke the deadlock after just four minutes.

The visitors’ Aidan Kirby slipped the home side’s offside trap and raced through to chip Town keeper Danny Whiting.

The home side almost responded minutes later with a counter attack but Luke Cotton’s effort clipped a post as it went wide.

The woodwork was rattled again as Chris Wademan lashed a shot from distance that went in off the underside of the bar but play was called back for a foul in the build-up, denying Silsden a second.

Forrest’s men went close again when Arley Barnes’ long range effort clipped Whiting’s bar midway though the first half.

Ten minutes later the Cobbydalers doubled their lead when Kyle Hancock’s corner caused the home defence problems and, after the ball came back off the bar, Reece Kendal nodded into the net.

Dan Illingworth picked up a yellow card late in the first half and that was to prove crucial as the Cobbydalers midfielder didn’t complete the game. Illingworth brought down a Cheadle forward in the last minute, earning a second yellow card.

That meant Silsden were up against it in stoppage time as the visitors were already level by then.

Rick Whyatt was allowed space in the area to net a free header midway through the second half and with 10 minutes remaining, Luke Farrow beat Silsden keeper Callum Jakovlevs to a diagonal through ball and steered the ball home.

The Cobbydalers were due to host Holker Old Boys tomorrow, who were beaten 2-0 by lowly Chadderton on Saturday.

However, the match has been postponed today due to the ongoing issues with the gas supply in Silsden.
