West Riding County Cup quarter-final: Tadcaster Albion 4 Silsden 1

SILSDEN'S West Riding County Cup adventure is over for another season after they were beaten at Evo-Stik Division One North outfit Tadcaster Albion last night.

The hosts were on top for most of the quarter-final but they didn’t break the Cobbydalers’ spirit until midway through the second half.

A quickfire double from the experienced home side then sank Silsden’s hopes of reaching the last four.

It was Danny Forrest’s side that drew first blood as they opened the scoring from a sixth-minute penalty.

A rash challenge saw Will Storrie tumbling to the ground in the area, and Mark Trueman stepped up to fire the resulting spot-kick home.

Taddy were level midway through the first half when Carl Stewart fired home after latching onto a loose ball in the Cobbydalers’ area, and the Brewers took a slender lead into the break after Conor Sellars acrobatically hooked the ball in after Callum Jakovlevs could only parry a shot from Jordan Armstrong.

The Brewers still dominated possession and the chance count after the interval, and their persistence paid off with two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half.

Stewart added his second and Jonathan Greening wrapped up Taddy’s victory with another fine finish past Jakovlevs.

The Brewers join Farsley Celtic, Bradford Park Avenue and Brighouse Town in the semi-finals.
