North West Counties League Premier Division: Silsden 0 Alsager Town 1

THE problems continue to mount for James Gill’s Silsden after they lost what could prove to be a critical relegation battle.

It was a clash of basement outfit the Bullets against the third-from-bottom Cobbydalers, but it was the home supporters who wandered away from the Angel Telecom Stadium disconsolate.

There were few moments of quality in what was always going to be a tight, nervous game, and a single strike from Kyle Smith midway through the second half settled the contest in favour of the visitors.

The one crumb of comfort for Gill, who came in late in the season in an attempt to salvage the top-tier status of his old club, is that his team are not joint bottom.

A defeat for AFC Blackpool at Cammell Laird 1907 meant they are now propping up the table, with Alsager level on points with the Cobbydalers inside the bottom three.
