Brighouse Town will be on a mission on Saturday when they make the trip to Barton Town Old Boys in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

They know a win could see them close the gap on leaders Tadcaster Albion and definitely haul in second-placed Thackley, who have no fixture this weekend.

However, their main motivation will be to overhaul Barton at the second time of asking after missing out on the opportunity in midweek.

Barton earned a 1-1 draw at the Dual Seal Stadium in the reverse fixture last Tuesday, when Paul Quinn’s men were looking to reclaim third place.

Albion Sports were also disappointed in midweek as they lost 1-0 to a penultimate-minute goal at Athersley Recreation.

A draw would have taken Albion above fourth-placed Brighouse but it was a spurned chance.

Albion face a tough trip to Heanor Town, when it will be the home side that are seeking revenge.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men beat the Derbyshire outfit 3-2 at home just eight days ago and are expecting a backlash.

There is also a big game on the cards in Division One, when Lee Duxbury takes his Eccleshill United side to Shaw Lane Aquaforce for a top-five clash.

The Eagles go into the game in fifth spot but they trail their second-placed hosts by just two points.

Shaw Lane also have a carrot dangling as they are just two points adrift of leaders Cleethorpes Town, so the possibility is there for them to go top.

A desperate battle for points is in prospect in the North West Counties League Premier Division as Silsden host fellow strugglers Squires Gate.

The Cobbydalers are without a win in seven games and are just two points above the relegation zone.

Their Blackpool-based visitors are also in a precarious position. They are two places higher than Silsden and have lost more than half of their 19 starts in the league this term, but they do have a game in hand on their hosts.
