WEST Horton's unbeaten start to the West Riding County Amateur League season was brought crashing to an halt by a dazzling Thornton United fightback.

First-half strikes by Sheraz Mahmood, Hassan Khan and Aron Basi had left Horton in charge and seemingly on course for a fifth win in seven Division One matches.

But Danny Walker struck twice, backed up by goals from Brendan Maltby, John Selby and Chris Lever, as Thornton turned the game around to win 5-3 and climb above their opponents into second place.

Route One Rovers made it three wins from their first four games as two Sharaz Hussain goals, plus one each by Waheed Khan, Asgar Taj and Hassan Ali, earned a 5-1 success at Tyersal.

Ventus-Yeadon Celtic travelled to Holmfirth Town and had only a Terry Hargreaves consolation goal to show for their efforts after losing 4-1.

Wibsey travelled to unbeaten Wakefield City and were on course for a comfortable victory at 5-0 up after 76 minutes when Jamie Bentley went down with a serious leg injury, causing the game to be abandoned.

The day's highest scorers were TVR United, who had Abid Kahn netting a double hat-trick in his side's 9-2 home victory over Littletown Reserves.
