THE scrap to avoid one of the two relegation spots from the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division intensified on Saturday as not one of four of the sides in the bottom six who played managed to pick up a point.

Tyersal, who are rooted to the basement, were beaten 5-2 at Steeton as Lee Reilly (3), Mark McGee and Andy Holden found the net for the home side, while Dave Geddes and Jamie McEwen replied.

Hunsworth, who have failed to take a point off any of the top five teams, were trounced 7-2 at home by Storthes Hall, with Dale Wright scoring both consolation goals.

Salts, with two goals each from Jonny Cunnington and Daniel Lyness, beat hosts Kirkburton 4-0, while Halifax Irish – who have only three games left – lost 2-1 at home to leaders Golcar United.

Campion go into their Premier Division Cup semi-final tomorrow night against Lower Hopton at Liversedge with an advantage after goals from Omar Habeeb and Terry Ryan gave them a 2-0 victory over their Mirfield opponents in the league.

Cup holders Ovenden West Riding reached this season's last four with a 3-1 victory over Bay Athletic. Ovenden will now meet Huddersfield YMCA at Brighouse Town's ground on Wednesday, April 1.

Dudley Hill Rangers missed the opportunity to open up a significant lead at the top of Division One after drawing 2-2 with bottom-placed Campion Reserves.

Liam Carroll and Chris Gibbons twice gave Rangers the advantage but they were pegged back both times by Chris Helliwell.

Second-placed Ventus-Yeadon Celtic visited Westbrook YMCA and left pointless after first-half goals from Greg Rowell and Tom Day gave the hosts a 2-0 victory.

Bradford Horton Sports had Paul Andrews, Syeed Hussain and Shezad Iqbal on target in the first half at home to Steeton Reserves. But they failed to build on that advantage and finished up losing 4-3 after two goals by Andrew Briggs and one each from Greg Hudson and Josh Ferguson.

Tyersal Reserves met Division Two leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys for the second time in three weeks and, while they lost 8-2, at least avoided another double-figure trouncing.

Bottom side Salts Reserves were on the goal trail, with Richard Magson netting five times to add to strikes by Andy Howard, Ryan Boguslavski and Adam Hussain as they thumped Hunslet Club & Parkside 8-1.
