ATHLETICO, who made people sit up and take notice when they defeated Farsley Celtic Juniors a few weeks ago, added to their Yorkshire Amateur League reputation with a 9-4 Premier Division home defeat of in-form Beeston Juniors.

The Bradford club led 3-0 at half-time and built up a 7-0 advantage before Beeston hit back with a brace, with the sides sharing the last four goals.

Danny Lyons gave dominant Farsley an early two-goal lead and missed an easy opportunity to make it 3-0.

St Nicholas risked more and were rewarded with two goals before half-time, but they were twice caught on the break in the second half via Lyons and a superb Joe Firth strike.

The underdogs scored a third but steely Celtic held on to stay sixth.

Jack Kitson put Grangefield Old Boys in front at home to third-placed Alwoodley, who equalised before going 3-1 ahead.

Shane Gaunt reduced the arrears after good work by Matty Benson, and the Old Boys laid siege to the Alwoodley goal, but they were denied by two magnificent saves by man of the match Luke Chadwick and also hit the bar.

Garforth didn't net until the 80th minute, but forced an equaliser before their fresher legs told in extra-time.

Fairbank's thoughts were: "A fine effort by the lads. Both teams look forward to the league encounters, which will be just as close."

Only 13 Norristhorpe Reserves players turned up for their second-round Hodgson Cup tie at home to Gildersome Spurs Old Boys Reserves, and they paid the penalty by losing 5-2.

A Ben Bastow exorcet from 20 yards gave Spurs a 1-0 lead that was doubled by a firm header from James Wilby after a left-wing cross.

Norristhorpe, whose man of the match was James Nicholson, fought back with goals from Tom Boocock and Luke Harrington before half-time but Bastow, Wilby and Sam Innes netted for Spurs in the second half.
