YASMIN Ayub admits it will be strange captaining Bradford City against her former club as they take on Brighouse Town in the West Riding County FA Women's Cup final tonight.

Ayub started the season with this evening's opposition and will come up against some familiar faces as she looks to guide City to their fourth successive title.

"It will definitely be strange to come up against players I have spent the past few years playing alongside," she said.

"However, the girls at Bradford have been amazing at helping me settle in and I feel like I have been here a lot longer than just half the season."

The midfielder's immediate impact since her mid-season switch has seen her handed the armband as well, after Charlotte Oates suffered a serious knee injury in March.

That will make tonight's clash even more special as she leads her new side out against her former one

"I captained the team at Brighouse for a number of years and in a number of important games, including cup finals," she said.

"I am excited for every game but cup finals definitely bring a whole other level of excitement, especially when you captain a team.

"I expect the game to be highly competitive, even more so with it being the first time Bradford and Brighouse have met in a competitive fixture.

"I think both will be looking to go into the game with the focus on their own team, wanting to take control of the match early on."

City, champions for the last three years, are overwhelming favourites to win – especially against lower-league opposition.

Town will be eager to take their deserved chance at winning the competition, having got this far, and the Bantams will be wary that anything can happen in a final.

Yet City head into the game full of confidence and Ayub believes her team would be more than worthy of ending their season with a piece of silverware.

"After so much change, this team has had to work harder than most to get results," she said.

"But through everything, they have continued to stay positive and supported each other as a great team should.

"After the difficulties of the season, I think the girls deserve nothing less than to lift the trophy."

Tonight's match at West Riding county headquarters, Fleet Lane, Woodlesford, kicks off at 7.30pm.
