SHAUNA Legge believes Bradford City Women are in a great position ahead of tonight's County Cup semi-final against former club Guiseley Vixens.

The Bantams ended a three-game losing streak on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion and Legge could not be happier with the timing.

"We said before the game that we had to come away with a win to set us in good stead for Wednesday and we followed through with that," said the City full back.

"It was definitely a result long overdue. We felt we deserved more from both the Nottingham Forest and the Fylde games and it was tough to take defeats by such fine margins.

"But we were all glad to make sure we secured the three points against West Brom, as well as putting on a good performance. I think we looked strong and rectified mistakes that may have cost us in previous games."

Laura Elford's fine form in front of goal continued in the victory, with her brace ensuring all three points.

The striker headed home from a corner before the break, while a sweet first-time hit doubled City's lead just past the hour mark.

West Brom halved the deficit moments after City's second goal, with Abi Cottam's strike benefitting from a fortuitous bounce.

But Gina Burton's red card early in the second half meant the Baggies were always going to struggle to mount a comeback as City comfortably saw the game out.

"The win leaves us feeling positive ahead of the Guiseley game," said Legge, with the two local rivals to clash at West Riding HQ in Woodlesford.

Legge is not the only one going up against her former club either, with the Vixens squad containing four players who sported claret and amber just last season.

Sarah Danby and Olivia Thackray have made a real impact in front of goal, while Alarna Fuller has taken the armband and Chantelle O'Hara controls midfield.

Their contributions have been huge as Guiseley charge towards the Northern Division One title in the FA Women's Premier League and they will hope to continue that form in the cup.

But Legge said: "Knowing some of Guiseley's strengths and weaknesses can only be a positive for us.

"It's always exciting playing against a former club and it will be a battle. It's definitely going to be one to watch."
