FIELD were the latest team to suffer West Yorkshire League defeat against runaway Premier Division leaders Carlton Athletic.

Both teams struggled to get a foothold in the game during the first half and subsequently there were not many chances created by either team.

Carlton scored the first goal 20 minutes into the second half and although Field tried their best to equalise, it was Athletic who secured all three points when they scored again with five minutes to go to make it 2-0.

Field dropped to seventh place and their assistant manager Barry Dunne said: "Both teams worked hard and tried to play football the correct way but largely cancelled each other out."

Matt Conway's hat-trick enabled Wyke Wanderers to enjoy a good 3-1 win at Boroughbridge in Division One.

Wanderers started well, Sibu Moyo drawing some hefty challenges from the Boroughbridge players with his pace, and the visitors duly went in front through Conway.

Confidence was high as Wyke swarmed all over the hosts, with Conway getting his second goal after controlling the ball in the penalty box.

Boroughbridge replied after some sloppy play but this only spurred Wyke on and they made the game safe when Conway completed his treble.

Wyke secretary Dave Ryan said: "Matt was deservedly awarded the man of the match award for his hat-trick.

"This win was a timely return ahead of our Heavy Woollen FA District Wheatley Cup semi-final against Littletown at Liversedge on Thursday (7.30pm)."

Wyke Wanderers Reserves find themselves bottom of Alliance Division One after their 5-0 loss at Leeds City Reserves.

Yet the scoreline did not reflect the game as Wanderers played some good football and were on top for large parts of the first half, only for two defensive errors to let Leeds take a 2-0 lead into the break.

The second half was a toil for Wyke, who struggled to compete, but there were some good performances from Andy Pearson and man of the match Paulo Lewandowski.
